A GLASGOW Harry Potter festival has been cancelled because the organisers couldn’t cope with the overwhelming demand.
Over ten thousand people showed interest in the event’s Facebook page.
The event was to be the first time the annual Bearsden festival adopted a wizarding theme.
Organiser of the festival and Minister at the New Kilpatrick Church said: “We thought since it’s the 20th anniversary of the first book being published in June it would be a great idea to tag on to that.
So we did and thought local people would quite enjoy that but we had no idea it would go viral the way it did.”
Facebook users from across Europe expressed an interest on the page, but the numbers were more than the small town of Bearsden could cope with
Mr. Hamilton said: “We can handle the usual numbers we have, maybe 800, 900, 1000 people. But if you just even double that people wouldn’t be safe at all. Also the bigger it gets we have to pay for licensing for the Harry Potter brand.”
The organisers hope that they can run an event which will accomodate all those interested in the future.
