School bus carrying 50 school pupils overturns in Cumbernauld

UPDATE: 5 pupils have been taken to hospital. A 16 year old girl was taken in for non-serious injuries and four other girls for observation.

A school bus carrying 50 pupils has overturned in Cumbernauld at rush hour this morning.

The vehicle was on its way to Our Lady’s High School when it overturned at 9am.

Paramedics were in attendance and two children were taken to hospital but there have been no reported serious injuries.

The single decker bus flipped on its side in the Abronhill area, on Dowanfield Road.

A North Lanarkshire Council spokesperson said: “At the moment there are no reports of serious injuries. However, two pupils have been taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Paramedics are currently on site.”

The pupils are currently being attended to by the school staff and emergency services in the school assembly hall.

All parents have been notified.
